池田 サーンヴィ
(Saanvi Ikeda)

Origin

Saanvi's journey begins in the bustling city of Kugane, where she was born into a family deeply rooted in art and tradition. From a young age, Saanvi was drawn to the ancient practice of alchemy, which she began exploring as a child. Her natural curiosity led her to experiment with various substances, and it wasn’t long before she developed a particular fondness for dye-making, a craft that allowed her to blend science and creativity. This early passion for alchemy would serve as the foundation for many of her future endeavors. On her okāsan's side, Saanvi’s family had a long history of tattoo artistry, dating back to their Keeper ancestors who had lived a more tribal, traditional lifestyle. Tattooing was not just an art for them; it was a sacred practice, an expression of identity and history. Growing up in this environment, Saanvi became fascinated with the intricate designs and their deep meanings. She began to draw designs on paper and canvas, eventually practicing with a pen, applying her designs to herself, her friends, and family.Saanvi’s natural artistic talent caught the attention of her ojichan; a revered horishi. Under his guidance, she studied the art of irezumi, learning the rich techniques of this craft, which combined deep symbolism with exquisite craftsmanship. Her ojichan himself had a large irezumi on his back, telling the story of his past involvement with a syndicate and how he eventually severed ties due to corruption. His tattoo was not just a piece of art, it was a powerful narrative that left a lasting impact on Saanvi, cementing her desire to carry on this tradition. Her skill in drawing and design quickly earned recognition beyond her family circle. What started as a personal pursuit to practice and improve became a way for Saanvi to support herself. She sold her artwork and designs, which became highly sought after, providing her with the means to support her living. Eventually, Saanvi opened her own Irezumeya in Hingashi, where she offered her services to a wider clientele. Her very first client was her sister in law, Echiko Ono, a raen with unique ivory scales adorning her body. At the time, Ono had no tattoos and was nervous. Nonetheless, she pushed through her reluctance and was thrilled to have a piece done by her young sister. This gave a hint of mutual familiarity, lowering the tension. Ono placed her trust in Saanvi for her first-ever tattoo. This initial act of trust was the beginning of a deeper bond between them, and Echiko played a significant role in Saanvi's artistic and professional growth.Later, her work would attract the attention of an oyabun, who recruited her to set up a tattoo shop at the syndicate’s temple. The oyabun saw the potential in Saanvi’s skills, especially as they lacked a residential horishi. This new opportunity not only expanded her clientele even more, but also introduced her to a more complex world where tattoos represented both personal stories and social status.Saanvi continued to refine her artistic skills while expanding her knowledge. In addition to tattooing, she developed a minor focus on herbal medicine, blending her alchemical expertise with her interest in natural remedies. Her sister-in-law Echiko, who had studied medicine, became her partner in this pursuit. Together, they worked on combining their respective skills to provide holistic treatments for their community. In her personal life, Saanvi maintained a balance between her creative, professional, and physical pursuits. To stay grounded and strengthen her body, she practiced Aikido, a martial art that she took up as a form of self-defense and personal development. After ten years of dedicated training, Saanvi has recently earned her black belt; a testament to her perseverance, discipline, and determination. Her brother, a skilled martial artist in his own right, often sparred with her, pushing each other to grow stronger in their craft. From her early days experimenting with alchemy to becoming a renowned irezumi artist, Saanvi's path has been shaped by her family legacy, her passion for art, and her dedication to personal development. Whether through her tattoos, her herbal remedies, or her martial arts practice, Saanvi continues to honor her heritage while forging her own path on Etheirys.
